Our Story—Our Passion
A Berber family from southeast of Morocco owns Morocco Countryside Tours. Said and his family were one of the nomadic families living in the middle of The Sahara Desert until he was 15 years old. Livestock was the source of their income. Since there was not enough rain in the desert, the living conditions were difficult. Said’s parents decided to change from a nomadic lifestyle to settle down and create a village with other nomadic families with whom they lived in the desert; they began digging wells and farming. After about ten years of hard work farming, there was, once again, not enough water to farm anymore.
Said's family decided to move to Merzouga, a small village that attracts many tourists traveling here to enjoy the camel rides and get a taste of the desert life. They brought some camels and started organizing camel trips into the desert for one or more night stays. Said worked while he studied. (The Moroccan government had built educational facilities in the village for the children of nomad families.) Said and his family worked hard to start a company that allowed them to organize trips nationwide, not just in the desert. While Said completed his studies, he started working as a tour guide with his brother.
Said, his brother and family also provide support and work to the local Berber nomad families from the desert area. Morocco Countryside Tours is a registered tourist company, and they are proud to be able to bring the most enchanting and memorable travel experiences to visitors while continuing to support their local community.
